The HRC has a list of businesses that supported "Yes on 8" in California. If you live and do business in that state, I encourage you to check it out and search for businesses in your area and/or that you do business with, and then consider whether or not you're comfortable continuing to support their endeavors. Californians Against Hate has a Dishonor Roll that lists major donors to Yes on Prop. 8 as well.

Update, 12/19/2008: HRC has posted a new page to their web site: Buying For Equality 2009

"Ratings in Buying for Equality are based on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's annual report card, the Corporate Equality Index. A record 260 businesses scored 100 percent on this year's report, which is a significant increase from the 195 businesses that earned a perfect score last year. From enhanced domestic partner benefits to transgender inclusion in non-discrimination policies, we are seeing a revolution in the American workplace."

This is a way to make a positive impact with your dollars. Please also read through the comment threads for other suggestions and links.

Probably on the AZ Secretary of State's web site, somewhere. Same thing with the Florida amendment. If you can't find it from here, I can go look for it myself. Please post the link here if you find it.

Where would I find a list of companies who donated to Prop 102 in AZ?

BiNetUSA has put together a "Bi" shopping page, which of course, I encourage all elements of our community to utilize as a means of expressing positive support for queer business.

Thank you for all of this info...I had noticed several Taco Bells with Yes on Prop 8 signs posted out front...glad to get confirmation that it's true...sad to see so many people put their wealth towards this...I'd like to make a list of what that money could have done if it had been donated to charities and worthy causes.

Here's an article on why to shop within the GLBT community, and a Bear Business Directory.

I don't see this link posted here, but its a good link. You can search by state, city, zip code and choose supporters of or opponents to Prop 8.

1. I think we need to take an equally assertive and aggressive positive approach... identify our allies, and support them. Spread lists of supporting companies. I'll do my best to find such as I have time.
2. You're obligated to identify your employer if you donate more than $100 cumulatively to any measure or candidate. Donations by individuals, as opposed to corporate funded donations, are not necessarily representative of the company itself.
3. I don't think it is particularly wise to advocate that the Mormon church be stripped of it's tax exemption, unless it is found to have violated the law. We in Santa Cruz have had some fairly extensive discussions about this. The federal Supreme Court has well established precedents stating that, short of endorsing a particular candidate or party, a non-profit organization (such as your local GLBT community center) is permitted to spend a significant percentage of it's budget on ballot measures and other political activity, without penalty. To date, there's been no evidence that the Mormon Church violated any laws in its actions. Further, we had plenty of courageous allies within the Mormon Church (and others) who put themselves in harms way on our behalf (we had over sixty active No On 8 volunteers from within our local Mormon community, many of whom were out on the street on election day), and initiatives like this hardly help them build credibility in their own community, or cement alliances.

Kelly, we're posting lists that we find other places. We're not creating the list ourselves.

Sometimes if an indvidual donated money in the name of a company, the company name shows up - so perhaps that low-ranking individual at your secret company wants to make the company appear anti-gay - which will hurt the company in the long run. I'm not sure why an individual would even list their company name unless they want that company's name associated with the donation.

Unless you're willing to disclose your secret company, we can't edit the list. Until then, we'll post the lists we find - just the way we find them.

Speaking as an employee of one of the above companies, one of the very large ones, I advise some caution is putting out there names of a company as an "enemy" to the cause because of a single donor you find on a list. I cannot state the company name I am referring too since I have my own confidentiality agreements to deal with but suffice it to say that you have a name listed for it here of a person that donated a sum, the person is a low ranking person in the company. I checked the no on 8 donations and saw triple the amount of donations from people within the same company. In my company they go to great lengths to provide an environment that welcomes all that work there. There are always bad apples in any orgnaization, especially when it is a very large one. It is not fair to the organization to demonize them for one person, ignoring the others that have worked to make their company accepting of diversity.
